Marine Research at CARMABI

In early 2011 I spent 3 months working with researchers at the CARMABI Marine Research Station on Curacao, Dutch Antilles. Many of the survey dives were point-intersect transects recording benthic cover for research work investigating the impact of CCA disease of coral larvae settlement.

Seaweed Survey in the UK

The Seasearch East team organised a 2 week survey of the East coast of England (North Sea), focusing specifically on algae and seaweed. The team started in the Essex Blackwater estuary, mainly looking at oyster rafts and pontoons, before moving up to Orford in Suffolk, the North Norfolk coast, Lincolnshire, Flamborough Head and the Farne Islands.

Photographs and specimens were taken for identification and pressing, with many new species being recorded for the area.
