Nov 2009 - Diving with dragons
At the end of 2009 I spent 4 months diving around Indonesia, including Sumatra, Sulawesi, Bali, Lombok and Flores.
I trained as a divemaster in the
Komodo National Park with
Reefseekers, an exceptional dive company based on Angel Island, near Labuanbajo in Flores.
Every day on the Reefseekers boat one of the divemasters would give a marine briefing and mine was, of course, about sea slugs and nudibranchs.
Sept 2009 - Coral Reef Cleanup
Whilst staying on Bunaken Island, North Sulawesi I hooked up with
Two Fish divers and spent the
Project Aware International Cleanup Day clearing the port area of rubbish.
We hauled out 2 dive boat loads of tyres, paint cans, old trousers, toothbrushes, a window frame, cigarette packets, plastic bags, glass bottles and
lots of other rubbish. Unfortunately the island has no recycling facilities so it ends up either being burnt or buried.
