Diving would not be the same without someone to share your experiences underwater with, to plan dive tables and sites or to chat excitedly about the day's dive in the bar in the evening.
Not to mention being there to save your life should you encounter difficulties.
Or being used as a photographic model, wildlife spotter and camera assistant.
Your dive buddy can make or break your dive.
